New American Bible New Testament Update

I just read that the New American Bible New Testament is going to be updated again. I read it in this article on "The Sacred Page" blog. It sounds as though the process will take several years. It says:

The U.S. bishops have announced a plan to revise the New Testament of the New American Bible so a single version can be used for individual prayer, catechesis and liturgy.

My book has a page on McFarland Publishing's website now. I don't know if this is the final cover. I wasn't contacted about it yet, so I'm not sure. It is listed for publication in the fall/winter of 2012. It may be a while yet as it has just gotten turned over to the production department. Also, no word yet on the final number of pages.

Spoken English New Testament

Good news about the Spoken English New Testament! Bradley Cobb and the author, Webb Mealy, worked together to produce an eSword version. You can download it at BibleSupport.com. Bradley writes:

It includes a bible file with 6,000+ footnote references in it. It includes a commentary file with the text of those 6,000+ footnotes. It also includes a dictionary file with 107 entries that explains words and concepts that many modern people wouldn't understand initially. Words such as "apostle" and "high priest" are explained, as well as many other things.

Who?

Bradley Cobb solved the mystery of the new NT coming out in the UK. It is called "Who?" and is the work of Paul Langham. Who? features:

• a door into Scripture, an appetite-whetter that points the way to the whole Bible
• easy to read and understand
• faithful to the text and meaning of the original
• verses grouped in passages without verse numbers
• order of New Testament books changed with the Synoptic Gospels presented as one narrative
• brief introductions to each New Testament book offer a summary of the book and an insight into it from the author

Digital, Handwritten Bible in the UK

The Bible Society UK sponsored a project to produce a digital handwritten KJV Bible. You can view "The People's Bible" online. After visiting the page, I discovered they've also done the Good News Bible in the same format.

New NT released in the UK?

I ran across this article about a new New Testament released in the UK. It was produced by the Bible Society U. K. The synoptic Gospels are combined; the book of John is moved to the end. However, I have not found any more information about this NT yet.

Social Media Version Bible

What would the Bible sound like if it was first given to us today? One group thinks that it would have terms such as "tweet," "share" and others relating to social media. In their own words:

Welcome to the 1st ever Social Media Version Bible. Launched in 2011 from a small number of verses in the book of Proverbs that we translated with social media terms. Terms such as Tweet, Post, Share. The idea is to show people how the principles & values we read in the Bible still apply to our lives on social media. We are not looking to be a new version of the bible but instead we are a movement of young people devoted to living our lives by the Word of God. We are also passionate about inspiring this generation of young people to pick up their actual bibles and read them on a daily basis.

This is from the Social Media Version Bible where "the Bible meets social media." For instance, Matthew 5:29 is rendered "If your twitter causes you to stumble delete it. Deleting it is better than being thrown into hell. #Matthew 5:29 #smvbible" So far, only a few verses have been revised. This project was started by Daniel Norris who says he wants to encourage others to read through the Bible as he did in 2011.

Noah's Ark: The Brick Bible for Kids

I just got an e-mail from Amazon that a new book has been published in the Brick Testament series. The Brick Testament is a series of Biblical stories retold and illustrated with scenes depicted using Lego bricks. Previously, some of the stories have some adult rated material. Now, there is a "Brick Bible for Kids." This one is a retelling of the story of Noah's Ark. I haven't seen the book yet so I have no review to offer yet.

Bible Editions and Versions, The Bible Corner, Tyndale for Today

I just got my copy of the Journal of the International Society of Bible Collectors, Bible Editions & Versions (Vol. 13, No. 2, April-June 2012). First, there was a slip of paper inside stating that the annual convention is going to be October 12-13 in Boston, Massachusetts. More information will be in the July-September issue.

Then, I read in an article about the web site Lookhigher.net that this excellent resource has a new owner. The new site is thebiblecorner.com. It still has all the same resources - access to 300 Bibles both on their site and on other sites.

And, lastly, on The Bible Corner I noticed a new version: Tyndale for Today. It is a modernized edition of Tyndale's preface, New Testament and Jonah. It is presented in parallel format with the modernized and original for comparison.

New Testament by Charles A. Schism

This isn't a new version - it was finished in 1998 (according to the preview on Scribd. It was published by AuthorHouse in 2005. But I didn't see it listed anywhere until it showed up as a preview on Scribd. At AuthorHouse, under "About the Author," it states that this was finished in 2000. It was translated from the Nestle-Aland 27th edition Greek Text. You can preview this NT on Scribd or purchase the e-book on AuthorHouse.
