MacDonald's Idiomatic Translation

This is a call for help...in getting a couple Scripture quotes. If you have access to Bibleworks 8 - I have a favor to ask. There is a new Bible version in Bibleworks 8 that isn't available anywhere else (yet). It is MacDonald's Idiomatic Translation. If someone could send me John 14:6 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17 I would be much obliged. Update:
The best email to request the Idiomatic Translation by Dr. William G.MacDonald is: oldmacdonald7@gmail.com Hope that helps! Grace and Peace, Laurie MacDonald.

  1. Dear Pastor Brad,

Here are the two texts from the Idiomatic Translation you requested:

"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, the life. No one approaches the
father except through me." (John 14:6)

"God's breath permeates all Scripture, making it valuable for doctrine, for censure,

for correction, and for discipline in righteousness. Its purpose is that the man of God
might be fully qualified, equipped for every good work." (2 Tim 3:16-17).

I hope this helps! God bless you,

Laurie MacDonald (daughter-in-law of William G. MacDonald, writer of the MIT)

    1. Hi Pastor Brad, If you have not already received it, I can email you a PDF copy of MacDonald's translation if you provide an email. It was late in coming, and I do apologize, but I just caught up with all the requests!! If possible, you may upload the PDF copy to this website for others to download directly. 3. Hi!

His translation is in pre-publication print, but in very limited quantity at this time. Do you have an e-mail that he may send you a copy of the introduction to his translation? We both tried to use the e-mail listed, but it did not work. That's why I left the comment on your blog : )

    Please e-mail me at:

    macdonald7@juno.com

and we will get it to you asap.

    Thanks so much!

    Laurie

  4. I've just heard about MacDonald's Idiomatic Translation thanks to some praised quotes in the 'Focus on the Kingdom' magazine (restorationfellowship.org).

The quotes for John 1: 1 & Philippians 2: 5-11 are just fantastic. This is a translation that I could make big use of. How can I get hold of a copy? How much would it cost? Any ideas?

The magazine article does say the translation is available on BibleWorks 9 software. But when I search under that what I get is confusing or hideously expensive looking. Can you help?

I'm in the UK, if it helps. Could you perhaps post me a link?

    Many thanks!

  6. Hello,

If anyone would like an electronic copy of my father-in-law's idiomatic translation of the NT, called the "MacDonald Idiomatic Translation" 2015 edition, please provide your email address and I will gladly send you an electronic copy! By the way, William just passed away recently (Dec. 31, 2017). He was very generous and would be very happy to know that his translation is being read. To God be the glory! If anyone is interested in one of his many papers, there is a link to his "Wonderful Jesus" that is posted on our family music ministry website. Feel free to go there and see it at macdonaldfamilysingers.com.

    Grace and Peace,

    Laurie MacDonald
