Modern English Version

The credit for finding this version goes to William Paul. He wrote in his column, Bible Info-Lines, in the journal "Bible Editions and Versions" about the Modern English Version. The translators describe it as the most modern version of the King James. There is an article about it on Charisma House. The translation, to be published by Charisma House, will be ready next year.

If you would like to get the "Bible Editions and Versions" journal you can get it easily with your membership in the International Society of Bible Collectors. Our organization has members all over the world. If you would like information about joining, please e-mail me (link on the left).

Free Bible Version

The Free Bible Version by Jonathan Gallagher was listed in The Encyclopedia of English Language Bible Versions as an unfinished Bible version (#UBV-0026). It is now finished and available for download.

New Bible Versions for e-Sword

Recently, I was searching through Bible Support.com looking for new Bible modules for the Bible software e-Sword. Below are the three that I found which are not listed in the The Encyclopedia of English Language Bible Versions:
  1. Restored Holy Bible a revision of Webster's 1833 Bible
  2. The Welcome Bible
  3. Niobi Huey Watson aka Patchworkid's Personal Study Bible
You will also find many other different Bible versions available (all for free). Many of those were converted for e-Sword by Bradley S. Cobb.

The Adaptive Bible

Just when you thought it was safe to start listing all the Bible versions .... it just got harder. While reading the blog Biblical Studies and Technological Tools I found a link to - The Adaptive Bible. The site "explores an automatically derived translation of the Bible." Selecting a chapter leads you to a display of verses with several choices for some of the words. Click on the your choice and that particular list collapses to that one word.

Now, for those of us counting versions, here's how it works: John 1:1 has 1x4x1x3x1 = 12 variations. John 1:2 has 24 variations as does John 1:3. So just for John 1:1-3 you have 6,912 variations. We'll probably get into scientific notation before we are out of the first chapter of John! Visit The Adaptive Bible and try it for yourself!

EELBV Updates

Those of you using the Encyclopedia of English Language Bible Versions may be interested in updates and corrections to my work. At the Encyclopedia's website you can find new versions, changes and corrections. I have already found 15 New Testaments, 3 Old Testaments and 19 Full Bibles since the book was published! On the site you will also find a sub-set of my Bible Reader's Museum links page in the form of a list with catalog numbers from the EELBV.

YaHuWaH TORAH by Daniel Merrick

Here is another sacred name Bible by Daniel Merrick: YaHuWaH TORAH (YaHuWaH Bible) (Volume 1). I don't know if there is any relation between this and his earlier Bibles.

Sacred Names New Covenant Bible

I've just run across another sacred name Bible. This one is by David L. Purkey. It is called the Sacred Names New Covenant Bible (first edition). There is already a second edition available as well. This version uses YESHUA for "Jesus" and Hebrew words for "God."

The Holy Bible of Love

I discovered this one first on The Internet Archive. It is a revision of the King James New Testament. Each occurrence of the word "love" is replaced by a transliteration of the original Greek word. Thus Matthew 5:43 is rendered "Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt agapao thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy." Matthew 6:5 reads "And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they phileo to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward." The main site for this version is The Holy Bible of Love.

The Kingstone Bible

Kingstone Comics is developing a 2,000 page, 12 volume graphic novel (comic book) telling the stories of the Bible. It is to be called The Kingstone Bible. The first four volumes are to be published this year. The remaining volumes will be ready in 2014. I first heard about this from an article on the Christian Post. Kingstone also produces Bible Comics. I am not sure what the relationship is between them. Amazon has the Kindle version ready and the paperback is available from some sellers.
